Blown Engine - 2005-02-21 During the saturday session at VIR I missed shifted and went from 3rd gear to 2nd instead of 4th resulting in revving the engine to 7200 rpm's. Here's the result.
I pulled all the plugs and did a compression check. Plug 4 (Far back Driver side) the plug was burnt off. Not sure how long it has been like that. Plug 7 (2nd from back pass side) was covered in oil. The compression check is below. Where 1 is Front driver side 4 is back driver side, 5 is front pass side and 8 is back driver side. So it looks like 4 was running very lean (to burn the plug) 7 has a cracked ring and 8 is not doing well either. 1 - 174 2 - 165 3 - 180 4 - 178 5 - 152 6 - 190 7 - 0 8 - 90
Engine has been removed. During the tear down I found Cylinder 7 had a hole blown through the piston. All 4 rings were also destroyed. The heads were untouched, head gaskets were in great shape. Looks like it is time for a new one.
